We Passed Natioinal Inspection!!!

Every year, camp gets inspected by a national accreditation team. Our visit was today, and we passed. In fact, we passed with no negative marks, and only a few comments where we could improve (things like "put labels on the filing cabinet" and "spray the hearing protection with Lysol between shooters"). We got our pennant, and will probably fly it below our camp flag tomorrow. We got the last update into our "Standards Manual" about an hour and a half before the inspection team showed up. This is the book we post all our info in, like what we do in an emergency, what our food menus are all summer, our food contracts, copies of all CPR cards, camp school cards, water quality inspection on our well, etc, etc. This poor binder is a 4 or 5 inch binder and is STUFFED FULL!!!

For those of you who do not know, our camp has a nature area, a pool, a very nice C.O.P.E course, shooting sports (archery, rifle, and shotgun (both trap and skeet)). Also we have Handicraft, Outdoor skills, a Trading Post, and a Mountain Man program.

I know I promised pictures, but I can't find my battery charger for my camera, and a new one is like $40. I know as soon as I buy a new one, the old one will surface!!! drats, I wish I could find it.

So what have I been doing? Keeping way too busy. I have the base station for our radios in my office, so I'm constantly monitoring the goings on at camp. (Yes, we heard about the Boy Scout camp in Ohio, which was a terrible loss, and have our procedures in place. We also monitor the weather stations for our area). I also check in all the units, have the lost and found area, sell shotgun rounds, are a few other items. I do estimates and final counts for the food service, submit payroll, and prepare the large (10x13) envelopes for "stuffing" will all the troops records of badges earned, patches, etc. I drive in to town (about 10 miles) to pick up the mail, and to Flag (about 30 miles) to do the banking. And every once in a while, I and some one else will make the run to Flag Hospital with a scout so they can get more care than we give here at camp. (I've not had to make that type of trip this year, but did go twice last year). So far this year, our stitch count is 4. (Yes that is the number of stitches our staff and campers have needed while at camp. We do have woodcarving as an activity, and teach knife safety, but some lessons are harder than others) I'd brag that 4 is really doing good for this time at camp, but that will surely backfire!!!

What do I do for fun?? Well, I had time to read for a few hours this last weekend, and I got to sew a fabric piece to use on a water balloon launcher for Friday's camp wide games. I'm looking forward to trying out the pottery wheels that camp got this year. I would really like to make a pot or a vase of some sort.

Oh, before I forget, in case some of you have heard on the news, Yes there is a forest fire north of us, but it is on the other side of I-40, and we are in no danger from that fire. We do monitor the forest service and take every precaution we can.

Well, I think I need to get ready for bed, I need to work on what my DH calls our "day job" tomorrow.

Thanks for visiting, and leave me a message. It sure would be nice to hear from you!

That is OUTSTANDING to get that high of an approval...shows you are all doing your best to make everything safe and up to date. That takes a lot of effort and time; so hats off and big/loud applause.

Hope you continue to have a good time and get the chance to make a pot. That would be fun. Have a great day.
